Our Story
In April 2019, Britton Latham, a student pastor in Huntsville, Alabama sat down for a cup of coffee with Allen Tate, a pastor he had never met. That day God began a work that would bring together a group of people to start a new church with a heart for those far from God in Tuscaloosa.
Allen is the leader of The Well Network, a church planting network aiming to plant 16 churches in college cities by 2026. That day Allen asked Britton to pray about planting the third church in the network. As Britton and his wife Jessica prayed, God surprised them with a burden and a passion for a city close to their hearts, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Britton and Jessica are natives of Tuscaloosa but never imagined that God would send them back. But as they researched college cities across the south, he made it clear that like the man in Mark 5, God was calling them to go home.
The Lord quickly began to bring people together to start the Church at the Oaks. A Launch Team began to meet in January to pray and prepare for a public launch in the Fall of 2020. When the pandemic hit, Oaks continued to press ahead by starting community groups and discipleship groups, while delaying weekly services. Finally, Church at the Oaks was able to officially open in January 2021.
